Peter Hammer is a filmmaker and a creative producer working in cinema and broadcast. He has an artistic research practice and a background in journalism. He is based in Copenhagen (and sometimes Amsterdam).

His works have been shown at Hot Docs, CPH:DOX, Nordisk Panorama, Makedox, Nordische Filmtage Lübeck, Labocine, Kunstrum Fyn, Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam, DR (the Danish Broadcasting Corporation), Copenhagen Concert Hall, DFDS Copenhagen-Oslo, INPUT Festival, TV 2 Denmark, a.o.

In 2005 he began his career as an investigative reporter for television but he since became a director and creator of award-winning documentaries and original groundbreaking factual programming with the Danish Broadcasting Corp. a.o.

His most recent film, Revir (2023), springs from a research into the intimate relationship between taxidermy and documentary film which share practices of collecting, conserving and staging realities. They even share a common ancestor and a cultural and technological heritage. While Revir portrays the relationship between a brother and a sister with her taxidermy workshop as an arena, the research project is concerned with questions regarding representation and subjectivity, realism and reality, naturalism and nature, creativity and creation.

He holds an MA in artistic research in and through cinema from Master of Film at Netherlands Film Academy. Forensics of Imagination is the title of his research which centres on imagination as a critical practice in documentary cinema, and on the reconfiguration of a narrative field by way of micro history, coincidence and encounter.
