I founded the national Kravling Awards for excellence in journalism and photojournalism (and later media more broadly) for students in these fields. I convinced student bodies of the Danish School of Media and Journalism, the Institutes of Journalism at University of Southern Denmark and Roskilde University to join in—and the Danish Union of Journalists to bankroll it.
I produced the first edition in 2007 and had a bronze figure made by Danish artist Jens Galschiøtt, a depiction of legendary Danish journalist Henrik Cavling as a six-year old in a grown-up’s hat and coat mimicking the most significant award for journalism in Denmark, the Cavling). Through our efforts the Danish Union of Journalism Students (DJS) came into being.
The Kravling Awards still exist and are held annually. I’ve been back as a member of the jury a few years.
